Abdullahi Maikaba, the technical adviser of Kano Pillars Football Club, has attributed the team’s recent poor performance in away games to the absence of a substantive sports commissioner in Kano State. The Sai Masu Gida suffered a significant defeat, losing 5-0 to Enyimba during their matchday 28 fixture in Aba.
Speaking to the media, Maikaba highlighted the challenges faced by the team, particularly the last-minute travel arrangements that saw them arrive in Port Harcourt at 2 am on the day of the match against Enyimba.
“The game against Enyimba was difficult looking at the way we travelled which affected the team completely,” Maikaba stated. “Kano state didn’t appoint a sports commissioner, it was just on Tuesday they screened two candidates for that position.”
Maikaba expressed hope that the appointment of a sports commissioner would alleviate the financial constraints faced by the club, emphasizing the importance of adequate funding and support from the government.
“I believe that is the main problem for our struggle as we don’t have a commissioner for sports and it’s becoming difficult for the management to get a way out of it,” he said. “Maybe things will get better if the Kano State government quickly appoints a sports commissioner which I believe will solve the problems of Kano Pillars.”
Despite the challenges, Maikaba remains optimistic about the team’s prospects for the season and is confident that Kano Pillars can still secure a continental spot with the talented squad at their disposal.
“We are in a very good position with the squad that we have still we are not far from a continental spot we can still recover and achieve our target for the season,” he concluded.
