Nigeria goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi was an unused substitute in Kaizer Chiefs’ 1-1 draw with SuperSport United in an Absa Premiership match at the Mbombela Stadium on Friday night.
This is the second consecutive time the experienced shot stopper will be named to the substitutes bench by Chiefs.
He was second choice to Bruce Bvuma in the exciting game.
Matsatsantsa grabbed the lead as early as the second minute courtesy of Mxolisi Macuphu, who powered home a close-range header into a gaping net after Bvuma parried Modiba’s initial strike into his path.
Chiefs did not have wait too long for the equaliser when Khama Billiat restored parity in 14th minute with a cracking strike from just outside the box that left Ronwen Williams with no chance.
Ayanda Gcaba opened the scoring for the visitors midway through the second half but Carlington Nyadombo, who captained Usuthu on the night, netted the equaliser a few minutes later.
Super Eagles Manager, Gernot Rohr has invited Akpeyi for this month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Pirates of Seychelles and the friendly against Egypt’s Pharaohs, both taking place in Asaba, Delta State.
