Rizespor of Turkey defender, Chidozie Awaziem and Enyimba of Aba stopper, Valentine Uzornwafor are set to be drafted the Olympic Eagles, in order to help shore up the team’s back-four ahead of Monday’s Africa U-23 Cup of Nations reverse fixture against Libya.
With the under-23 team having suffered seriously in their backline during their first leg 2-0 loss on Wednesday, footballlive.ng gathered that Nigerian soccer egg heads are of a view that Imama Amapakabo’s squad need support from players in the senior team.
Consequently, Awaziem, who is still within the under-23 age bracket (born January 1, 1997), and Ozornwafor, who is assistant captain of the under-20 team, Flying Eagles, are set to join Amapakababo’s side before Monday’s second leg.
It was gathered further that Awaziem and Ozornwafor will be joined in their rescue mission from the senior team to the U23s by the attacking duo of Henry Onyekuru and Victor Osimhen.
Although Amapakabo already has a surfeit of attackers and forwards in his squad, the former Rangers of Enugu and Ele-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri handler is said to be wary of relying on them.
With the like of Taiwo Awoniyi, Dennis Bonaventure, Orji Okonkwo and Samuel Chukwueze failing to rise to the occasion in the first leg, Imama is said to have accepted the move by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to draft two attackers to his team, alongside a couple of defenders.
