Rizespor of Turkey midfielder, Azubuike Okechukwu has declared that the under-23 national team, Olympic Eagles need to stay together and train longer among themselves in order to play better.
Speaking in the wake of Monday’s 4-0 trouncing of Libya in the second leg of their Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualifier in Asaba, the Olympic Eagles’ captain said it was a good performance from his team, but is of a view that they can do better.
Footballlive.ng reports further that the well-traveled midfield enforcer, who is on loan at Rizespor from Pyramids FC of Egypt, pointed out that the team did better in their reverse fixture against Libya because they had enough time together after the first leg.
Azubuike stressed: “We had enough time traveling from the first game. We came back and we trained with the players coming in.
“We had several meetings before the game on our own and then we had to do so. Going forward will be better than this.
”I have been in this situation before, with the last U23s. Every game is difficult.
”Basically we are fine and going forward I think these group of players are wonderful players.
”If we come together and train like we did for the last three days, going forward I think we’ll do better than we’ve done.”
