Chrisantus Uche, a Nigerian midfielder eligible to play for the Super Eagles, has spoken out about his experiences playing in Spain’s La Liga with Getafe.
Uche started his European football career after playing with Campos Football Academy in Nigeria. He moved to Moralo CP’s B team in Spain’s Tercera Federación before joining AD Ceuta.
He now plays for Getafe, where he recently scored his first goal against Atletico Bilbao.
In an interview with ESPN, Uche shared his frustrations over what he feels is unfair treatment on the pitch.
He revealed the harsh treatment received from opponents and referees.
“In the first two or three La Liga games, I have seen with my own eyes that the referees are very bad. They hit me, and the referee simply told me to get up. No, it is a foul, and he has to signal it. But if they hit another person, the referee blows the whistle. It is very painful,” Uche said.
The 21-year-old also opened up about experiencing racial abuse during matches.
Getafe fell to a 1-0 defeat to in-form Barcelona on Wednesday night and Chrisantus Uche also played.
