Create Super Falcon B Team – Okobi

Date:

Ngozi Okobi has made a case for the establishment of a Super Falcons B team, to provide an avenue for local players aged 20 and above to showcase their skills.

Okobi emphasized the need to address the situation faced by local players over the age of 20 who struggle to secure spots in the Super Falcons and are ineligible for U17 and U20 tournaments.

She believes that introducing a Team B, equipped with capable coaches, would present these players with an opportunity to develop and potentially earn a place on the National team.

She also credited the B Team with the discovery of notable talents like herself, as well as players such as Rasheedat Ajibade and Uchenna Kanu.

“We have so many players who are more than 20 years. If you want to encourage those girls, get a team B for them,” the Midfielder said on a Twitter Space, on Thursday.

“That was something we had in 2008, 2009 and 2010. That was where we got the likes of Rasheedat Ajibade, Uchenna Kanu, I mean, get things like this to get those girls in Nigeria busy.”

‘So when it’s time for them to break into the main team, they would come in and have their spot in the team. Because that’s how I got my own spot in the team.”

“Rasheedat Ajibade got the same because she came from the B team. Uchenna Kanu who did very well in this World Cup, she came from the B team.

“They all came from the B team. Get a B team to encourage these girls at home. Because if you keep bringing these girls from abroad, then you’re not encouraging anything in Nigeria.

“Get them a second team and groom them together. Put them in a camp, get a coach for them.”
