Enugu State Governor Gives Super Eagles N5m

Date:

In spite of the Super Eagles’ inability to go beyond the group stage at Russia 2018 World Cup, Enugu State governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has doled out N5m to the team, in fulfilment of a promise he made to reward the players for qualifying for the competition.

In contrast with initial fears that the governor might not feel bound to redeem the pledge, considering that the Eagles slump early in Russia, Ugwuanyi has gone ahead to reward the team for their victory over Iceland at the World Cup.

Ugwuanyi, who made the pledge in May, during a fund raising gala night for the Eagles, made good his promise on Tuesday when he presented a cheque to the team through the state’s commissioner for youth and sports, Joseph Udedi.

Udedi revealed that the governor congratulated the players for trying their best in Russia, and wished them the best of luck, as they return to their respective clubs.
