Former Napoli team doctor, Alfonso De Nicola has issued a word of caution to the Serie A champions, advising them to manage Victor Osimhen’s injury with great care to avoid a potential relapse.
Osimhen recently suffered a muscle injury while representing Nigeria during a friendly match against Saudi Arabia.
This injury has sidelined him the Nigerian Forward approximately 40 days.
“Napoli can do very little about Osimhen’s injury other than making the affected muscle as elastic as possible and healing it as best as possible,” De Nicola said as quoted by Napoli Magazine.
“Then the coach will have to do a lot in managing the playing time and only deploying him when the player is 100% recovered.”
This isn’t the first time the 24-year-old striker has experienced a muscle injury, as he grappled with a similar issue last season.
With his return anticipated after the next international break, De Nicola has urged Napoli’s coach Rudi Garcia to carefully oversee Osimhen’s game time to minimize the risk of a relapse.
