Former Nigerian player and U-17 World Cup winner, Kingsley Udoh has revealed that his cherished World Cup gold medal has been missing since the passing of his father, who had been entrusted with keeping it safe.
In an interview on Brila FM’s No Holds Barred, Udoh explained the circumstances surrounding the loss. “My father was the one keeping my things because I didn’t have a mother.
I don’t know where my dad kept it up till now,” he shared. “The only items I could recover was the mandate of my MON certificate and Africa nationals cup medal of U_17 In Togo that we won.”
Reflecting on his journey to becoming a world champion in 2007, Kingsley Udoh spoke about the inspiring influence of their late coach, Yemi Tella. “The tournament was very inspiring, our late coach Yemi Tella was very straight, if he was one of the coaches that takes bribe, I wouldn’t get near representing Nigeria at all.”
Despite the struggles he now faces, his memories of that victory remain powerful, even if his treasured medal remains lost.
