Arsenal attacker, Alex Iwobi has come out with a confession that playing for the Super Eagles has boosted his career with The Gunners, and says he is happy for making the switch from England, footballive.ng reports.
The Gunners’ former under-21 team captain recounted how he was not highly rated by the London club, despite his efforts with the squad and his status as an England youth international.
While describing it as a weird situation, Iwobi further disclosed that his pals mocked him because of the lukewarm reaction from Arsenal’s top brass to his presence in the team.
He admitted he felt proud playing for England at youth level;, but sad that it did not reflect on his image at Arsenal, which almost led to him opting for a transfer, but all that changed when he switched to Nigeria.
Iwobi recalled: “My situation was weird. I was playing for England but I felt maybe I wasn’t rated.
“My England team-mates and everyone else was getting in my ear saying that Arsenal don’t love me because they weren’t offering me a deal.
“It was hard especially because at school as well everyone was talking about it.”
