Just In: Nigeria 2018/2019 League season set for December 1st

The League Management Company, the body saddled with the responsibility of conducting matches of the Nigeria Professional Football League has proposed December 1, 2018 as resumption date for the country’s top football divisions which is also scheduled to come to an end on the 19th of May 2019.

 

 

According to the document released and signed by the Chief Operations Officer of the body Salihu Abubakar, the company has also drawn out the calendar for the season that is to be played in an abridged format with a total of 24 teams.

According to the Calendar, the season’s curtain raising match (Super Cup) between league winner Lobi stars and Aiteo Cup champions Enugu Rangers will be played on November 21 at the Stephen Keshi stadium in Asaba while the Annual General meeting and draws for the league will be conducted on the same date.

After the draw, team’s in pool A will begin their league matches on December 1st while matches to be played on December 2nd will be amongst team’s in Pool B with majority of the matches to be played during weekend’s.

In preparation for the new season, submission of club licensing for teams already in the NPFL closes October 2018 while promoted clubs have to submit their club license for the new season between November 12 – 14.

The first FIFA transfer window for players started on October 20 and is billed to come to a close on December 20, 2018 while the second window is set to open from January 30 to February 28, 2019.

The proposed calendar is still open to further ratification by concerned bodies including the club owners association and the players union.
