Sports ministry, Barrister Solomon Dalung has disclosed that financing of rehabilitation and renovation of Lagos National Stadium has been placed in the 2019 federal budget of Nigeria.
Footballlive.ng can report that Dalung is looking forward to a return of top-flight soccer action to The Centre of Excellence, as he believes the once busy ‘Sports City’ will again come alive after the budget approval.
While also hinting that the private sector and corporate bodies would also be involved in the project, Dalung stressed that getting the arena back to its old self would prove Lagos State with various benefits.
Dalung declared: ”I have not given up on the renovation of the National Stadium because we are still running a concession process.
“We only have some budgetary constraints but we have included the final phase in the budget of 2019.
“Once the budget is passed, we will pick up again because for me, we must fix the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
“If we fix the place, you cannot imagine the number of young people that will be employed as a result.
“It will improve the economy of Lagos State. (So, we hope) that we can move the private sector to invest and transform it.
“One of the things that I’m determined to do before I leave office is to ensure the conclusion of the concession of some of these projects.”
