Nigerian Legend Touts AFCON 2023 as Best Ever

Date:

Former Nigerian international, Victor Ikepa has dubbed the recently concluded AFCON as one of the greatest ever. The 50 year old commended the commitment and fighting spirit of all the participating teams. He noted that a lot of unusual results were experienced and it made the tournament one for the books.

He highlighted Cape Verde and Equatorial Guinea’s journey as a highlight. He also pointed the short journeys of Senegal, Egypt and other historical african nations.

Ikpeba said:

“The Nations Cup is, you know, at the beginning, during the first week’s fixtures, I see looking at the unpredictability of the results and all those things. This we go down as one of the greatest Nations Cup of all time”.

“Because the manner, the likes of the smaller countries were so good. The likes of Equatorial Guinea, Cape Verde, Burkina Faso. Senegal was out, Morocco was out, Egypt struggled, Ghana struggled, and Cameroon struggled. Tunisia struggled, Algeria struggled”

“We say at the end of the day, it was a saving grace that the likes of South Africa, Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire eventually got to the semi-finals and the finals. So it has been a brilliant Nations Cup. Maybe the football is not brilliant to see sometimes, but the commitment, the fighting spirit of the teams, never giving up, trying to win games, giving everything out and shocking results most of the times have made this tournament one of the best of all times”.
