Following the new resumption date of 2nd September 2018 for the Nigeria Professional Football League and taken into consideration the Eight Weeks duration of 28th October deadline for the conclusion of the 2017/2018 league season, the Nigeria Players Union wish to draw the attention of the league Management Company to the impact the new schedule is likely to have on the Health and Performance of the Players, including their Personal Development, Rest and Recovery if proper and adequate arrangement is not put in place to address the travelling challenges due to the bad nature of majority of our Roads.
While we commit ourselves with the LMC and the Clubs towards achieving a commercially successful schedule that respects the FIFA calendar, we must also build the needs of Players into scheduling decisions, including by addressing the requirements for high performance, Professional and Personal Development, Rest and Recovery
We therefore appeal to the LMC to make extra provisions in supporting the Clubs to improve the mode and quality of transporting their players and officials to and fro match venues for the remaining league games that will safe guard their Health, improve Performance, increase Rest and Recovery period to avoid clear dangers of picking injuries due to fatigue that can possibly terminate the career of such players
We hope this will be a major point of discuss in the meeting of the LMC and Clubs Owners Association tomorrow in Abuja
