Nwabali Expresses AFCON Disappointment, Commends Teammates and Reveals Next Move

Date:

Super Eagles number one goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali has expressed his disappointment at losing the AFCON title to hosts Ivory Coast. The Chippa United goalie also commended his teammates for a good tournament and how good they were to him.

The Super Eagles lost 2-1 despite grabbing the lead in the first half of the game, but could not prevent a Sebastian Haller late goal to sway the title the way of the hosts.

Nwabali who was a revelation at the tournament, in a chat with Brila Media, voiced his unhappiness at the way the tournament panned out for the Super Eagles but also expressed optimism that the team can do better in subsequent tournaments.

“It’s a very tough one for us. It is very tough one for us because as you can see these guys, we’re not happy. After playing and losing the last game, it’s better we lose the group stage game and win the final game. But we take it as football to be honest, but I wish our next one would be more better.”

“I want to give credit to these guys, my teammates, the defenders, and literally everyone, even the coaches. These guys really did a nice job for me. Talking about this confidence of a thing, I felt like this is what I’m going to add to the team because these guys have a lot of good players in the team.”

“And they also gave me confidence too because the way they talk to me, the way we associate, how we talk to each other. So I feel like I have it all. So I feel like that is just the best thing I could do.”

When quizzed about offers from other clubs, Nwabali stated that there is not much on ground regarding offers and so has to remain with his club in South AFricat the moment.

“I must go back to my club. Definitely I must go back to my club. But for now, there’s no deal for now. So I wish deals would come. I wish people’s wish to come true.”

“I wish leaving but if that’s not the deal I will still play there because without them I wouldn’t be here. So I wish playing the same day with them because I miss these guys. I wish playing more with these guys.”
