The Nigerian women’s footballing atmosphere is filled with somber clouds, as the community lost a pinnacle. Head coach of Bayelsea Queens, Domo Okara has officially passed away.
The news was announced on social media by Bayelsea Queens. In their official statement, the club announced that the gaffer had passed on and expressed their deepest thoughts and how he will be missed.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our cherished Technical Adviser, Coach Domo Okara. His impact on Bayelsa Queens is unforgettable. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. Thank you, Coach. You’ll be deeply missed”, the statement read.
Under his tenure with the Bayelsea Queens, the team secured a third place finish at the recently concluded NWFL Premiership super six.
The gaffer also led the team to a federation cup triumph in 2023, and a bronze medal finish at the CAF women’s champions league, which is Nigeria’s best outing in the competition.
The cause of death for the gaffer is still unknown, but reports suggest that it was a case of high blood pressure.
