Nigeria football icon, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha has revealed the reason for his unpopular take on the Nigerian Premier Football League.
Okocha said he mentioned that he would rather watch the English than go to a stadium to watch an NPFL match.
His stance drew nationwide criticism on one side as many fans asked what he did to make things better when he had the opportunity to serve as the Delta State FA Chairman.
However, on the other hand, many fans shared the sentiment and opined that the legend was only being brutally honest about the situation in the domestic league.
Sequel to the statement he made in Kenya a couple of months ago, Okocha revealed that he only said those words out of the hurt he felt at the situation of things in the NPFL.
“I said that out of anger, maybe also because I’m hurt that I’m back home but I can’t go (to the stadium) to watch a local league game.
“I would love to go and watch our league (matches). I would love to go and encourage the future players, but you know if I can’t feel comfortable to go and watch, then I can’t sweep that under the rug and pretend that things are okay.”
“No things aren’t okay,we can do it, we just have to,” he told Brila.
