Olofinjana Speaks Concerning Coaching Situation

Date:

Former Nigerian international, Seyi Olofinjana has spoken concerning the head coach role for the national team. The super eagles head coach position is still vacant, with Finidi George serving as an interim, while a permanent manager is announced.

Seyi said that it does not matter if it’s a local or foreign coach, but someone who fits into the NFF’s plan for Nigerian football. The former player likened the situation of the NFF to a company, and said there is a vision and the NFF just has to find a coach who fits the vision

In his exact words, Seyi said:

“I’m always very careful when I dabble into this topic. Anytime I get asked, you need to be very careful. And the way I always see our football is to be likened to any company. There is no company that doesn’t have some kind of vision of things they want to achieve. So what I’m saying is that every major company has a vision”.

“What does the NFF want to achieve with our football team? Because it is something we know that, then we then know which coach fits into what we’re gonna do. It’s not, it shouldn’t be about somebody has a rich CV, somebody has experience, somebody is this age, somebody has done this or done that. What do we need to achieve? That then determines the coach that suits what we need to get now”.

“The journey of a thousand miles starts with a step. And if 100 is where we want to go and we are on 20, how do we then get to 25? How do we get to 30? We might get a coach right now that gives us an opportunity to get to to 30 and then maybe in two years or three years he leaves. But as soon as we can measure the progress as communicated by the NFF, then we can know what progress we are making”.
