Ademetan Abayomi suggests that Chukwuka Onuwa can solve Enyimba’s creativity crisis, but only if he’s played in the correct position.
The petit attacking midfielder has found playing time difficult to come by since his move from MFM FC but he was assured, audacious and at the heart of all Enyimba’s attacking manoeuvres when utilised.
It’s a bit of a surprise that Onuwa isn’t a regular at the Enyimba side despite his positive performance as a substitute for the team.
His performance in the games against Rivers United and Remo Stars was an attestation of his massive talent.
Playing too deep in the midfield three seemed to sap the exuberance from the petit midfielder. Onuwa’a characteristics are surely better suited to the diamond role, and with his rich exploits at MFM FC still fresh in the mind, there doesn’t seem to be any reason not to play him there.
Barring a change of formation by the technical crew, it’s arguably the best solution for everyone involved at a decisive stage of the season, with so many players missing and important fixtures in the Nigeria Professional Football League rapidly approaching.
Play to his strengths and Onuwa could be a revelation, play him as a square peg in a round hole then discard him when others recover from injury, and you risk setting his progression back years.
