Regragui Takes Responsibility for Morocco’s AFCON Exit

Morocco’s coach, Walid Regragui, assumed full responsibility for the team’s unexpected exit from the Africa Cup of Nations following a 2-0 defeat to South Africa in the last-16 match.

Although they emerged pre-tournament favorites, the Atlas Lions struggled to capitalize on goal-scoring opportunities. Evidence Makgopa scored against the run of play in the 57th minute, and Teboho Mokoena sealed the win in stoppage time.

Regragui acknowledged the missed chances, stating, “At this level, you get immediately punished for any chance you waste.” The defeat marked the end of Morocco’s hope for their first Cup of Nations title since 1976, and Regragui emphasized taking full responsibility for the team’s performance.
