Rivers United Coach Attributes CAF Confederation Cup Exit to Missed Chances

Date:

Stanley Eguma, the technical adviser of Rivers United, has attributed his team’s exit from the CAF Confederation Cup to their inability to convert chances during the first-leg encounter against USMA of Algeria.

Speaking after his team’s 3-1 aggregate defeat, despite securing a 1-0 victory in Nigeria, Eguma emphasized the significance of missed opportunities in the crucial tie.

“We lost the game in Nigeria, where we created a lot of chances and converted only one,” Eguma explained, highlighting the pivotal moments in the match. “Anyone who watched the game even here will know that we had our fair chances but we failed to convert.”

Eguma lamented the impact of failing to capitalize on scoring opportunities, expressing his belief that converting even one or two chances could have altered the outcome of the tie. However, he acknowledged that such is the nature of football.

“Assuming we converted one or two, it would have made the difference but that’s football,” Eguma concluded, reflecting on the unpredictable nature of the sport and the importance of seizing opportunities in crucial matches.

Despite the disappointment of the Confederation Cup exit, Eguma and Rivers United will look to learn from their experiences and strive for improved performances in future competitions.
