Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr is relishing the exploits of Nigerian players in Europe, as he is of a view that seeing many of them in top form last weekend created confidence for better results by the senior national team in their upcoming matches.
Footballlive.ng reports that the Franco-German tactician took special note of goals by Semi Ajayi at Rotherham United and Oghenekaro Etebo of Stoke City, both in the English Championship, as well as by Shehu Abdullahi for Busraspor of Turkey.
Rorh acknowledged that several other Nigerian players also hit top marks, though they did not have goals to show for their efforts, and reckoned that it all boils down to great expectations from them against Seychelles on March 22 and versus Egypt on March 26, both in Asaba.
All three goal scorers have been invited for the Eagles upcoming duo of matches, with two other top performaers so far this season, Victor Osimhen of Sporting Charleroi in Belgium and Paul Onuachu from FC Midtjyland in Denmark included in the list of 23.
However, with out-of-form Leicester City striker, Kelechi Iheanacho and Samuel Chukwueze, who is now struggling for a starting role at Villarreal of Spain, not included in Rohr’s latest list, the former Burkina Faso, Niger Republicn and Gabon handler has shown his love for in-form players.
Such it was that Rohr was gloating over the performances by standout Nigerian players at the weekend, and believes they would be able to replicate suich form against Seychelles and Egypt later this month.
Rohr stated: “I am very happy about the performance of Semi Ajayi for his team Rotterdam. Shehu Abdullahi also scored for Bursaspor while Etebo Oghenekaro also scored his first ever goal in Stoke City colours.
“If they continue like this then their fitness level while coming for Seychelles and Egypt matches will be great.”
