Samuel Kalu did not make his 30th appearance of the season in all competitions when Bordeaux host Montpellier in the French Ligue 1.
Bordeaux coach Eric Bedouet logically decided not to retain Samuel Kalu for the visit of Montpellier due to recent circumstances as his mother, Ozuruonye Juliet Kalu was earlier kidnapped on February 27.
”He is a good professional. We help him, “says Hugo Varela, the skipper of the Girondins de Bordeaux.
Kalu’s mom was released around midnight on Monday but the Police have not confirmed if a ransom was paid before she got her freedom.
The former Gent winger is in line to make his fifth successive competitive appearance for the Super Eagles when they face Seychelles as he has been named in the latest Nigeria roster.
Meanwhile, ex-Sunderland starlet Josh Maja is in the 19-man group to face Montpellier.
