Former Super Eagles striker, Shola Ameobi has denied reports that he has quit the round leather game, as he insists he still has what it takes to carry on.
Ameobi who starred for Nigeria at Brazil 2014 World Cup, has been out of the spotlight since leaving Newcastle United, after which he joined a string of lower teams, but footballlive.ng gathered he insists he is still good to continue.
The 36-year-old, who is a free agent after being released by Notts County at the end of last season, stressed at the weekend that he has not retired, though he is no longer doing top level things in the game.
Ameobi said: “I’m doing bits and bobs. I made a decision with the family that I wanted to be closer to Newcastle, which obviously limits the clubs you can look for.
“I’ve kept myself fit and I haven’t retired officially. It would have to be the right club. It’s not something I’m actively pursuing but if something came up I’d definitely be ready.”
