Former Nigerian international, Sam Sodje has defined Etebo’s move as a positive one. Oghenekaro Etebo recently moved to Turkish second division side Gençlerbirliği S.K on a two-year contract, after sitting out the previous season entirely without playing for any club.
Sodje explained that after a lengthy injury, a player just wants to play football regardless of where the chance. He related Etebo’s incident with his, and highlighted that he understands how injuries can affect footballers.
“Injury played a big part in my career as well. Once you’re injured, what’s on your mind is to play, irrespective of the club. If you miss even 6 months of football, you’re not the same player. Just him playing at all is cause of happiness. And for a club to give him a two-year contract, he must’ve done his medical and they can certify that he can handle those two years of football. No club would invest in any player that they don’t have faith in”, Sodje explained.
He also wished Etebo goodluck, and implored people to pray and support Etebo in this new phase.
“Let’s all pray for him now, so that the injury is healed. He knows himself well and he has to take care of himself. If he’s that good, he’ll get back to the top”, the former player added.
