Former Sunshine Stars captain, Sunday Abe, has advised the men in charge of the CHAN Eagles to ensure they select the best players from the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) ahead of the upcoming qualifiers. Abe emphasized the abundance of talent in the league, stressing that it wouldn’t be difficult to find quality players for the national team.
He also pointed out that player selection should not be biased towards clubs associated with the appointed coaches, but rather based on merit. The CHAN Eagles will discover their opponents for the qualifiers on the 9th of this month when the draw takes place.
“These coaches in Nigeria know our players from the lower leagues to the Premiership. They just need to give opportunities to the right players and pick the best legs,” Abe remarked. “There are 20 teams in the NPFL, and many players are performing well now. I could easily name 25 top players from the league at this moment.”
He also emphasized that the coaches must be given the chance to prove their worth and protect their reputation through fair and effective selections.
