”The referee failed to award us a clear penalty…” Sunshine Stars Captain says over defeat to Sporting Lagos

Date:

Sunshine Stars’ captain, Sunday Abe, has expressed the team’s disappointment following their narrow defeat against Sporting Lagos in the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Despite putting up a commendable fight, the Owena Waves were unable to secure a positive result, ultimately losing 1-0 to Sporting Lagos. Pascal Durugbor’s early strike proved to be the decisive goal, earning Sporting Lagos maximum points.

Abe believed that Sunshine Stars deserved more from the game, expressing frustration over the referee’s decision not to award them a clear penalty.

“We felt really disappointed with the outcome of the game,” Abe stated in a media chat. “You can see we played really well, and the referee failed to award us a clear penalty, but in football, we have to improve going forward.”

Following the defeat, Sunshine Stars dropped to 16th position on the league table, highlighting the importance of bouncing back in their upcoming fixtures.
