A group of activists vandalized Lionel Messi’s €11 million ($12 million) property on the Spanish island on Tuesday.
The vandals covered the walls with red and black paint and posed in the garden holding a banner that read, “Help the planet. Eat the rich. Abolish the police.”
Messi, who bought the exclusive home in 2022 after leaving Barcelona, was not at the property at the time. The house has been used by Messi for vacationing on the island.
The activists described their actions in a statement as “non-violent civil disobedience,” aiming to hold the wealthy accountable for the climate crisis and criticize the Spanish government’s lack of action.
They also claimed that Lionel Messi’s mansion was built “illegally.”
Lionel Messi is currently recovering from an ankle injury sustained during the recent Copa América while playing for Inter Miami.
