Kano Pillars midfielder Nzube Anaezemba admits that the Sai Masu Gida played their worst game in recent time when they suffered a 3-0 loss in the hands of league leaders Akwa United.
Pillars were in shambles as they conceded easily without making any meaningful attempt on their own all through the evening.
It was a game many Nigeria football lovers expected to be a close contest but it was far too easy for the Promise Keepers who scored thrice and wasted numerous opportunities to score more.
“Ever since I joined Kano Pillars, this is the worst game we’ve ever played,” began Anaezemba .
“We didn’t play well at all. For us to come here to concede three goals is very, very bad for us. I think we should go home and rectify our mistakes,” added the former Enyimba star.
Pillars reliable centre-back Chinedu Sunday was not the game and Anaezemba believed the absence of the player is one of the reasons they fell at the Nest of Champions.
“Let me say that it (Chinedu Sunday’s absence) is part of it because consistency is really part of the game.
“We had two changes in the team, the right full-back (Ifeanyi Nweke replacing Victor Dennis) and the centre-back (Igenepo replacing Sunday) so I believe the absence of Chinedu really mattered a lot,” said Anaezemba.
However, the former Nigeria Professional Football League winner is confidence the Sai Masu Gida will earn a play-off spot come end of the league.
“I will tell you that all hope is not lost. We will still contend in the Super 6. Like I said, we are a very good side and we will go home and rectify all our mistakes,” he said
