In a bid to maintain order and ensure a successful conclusion to the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, league organizers have issued two practice directives aimed at preventing disruptive conduct.
In memos addressed to clubs and signed by Davidson Owumi, the Chief Operating Officer, attention was drawn to protocols regarding the use of the technical bench and the conduct of Ball Boys.
Regarding the technical bench, clubs were reminded of the proper usage, emphasizing that it is a reserved area strictly designated for substitute players, coaches, and backroom staff with defined roles during matches. The memo specifically warned against the presence of Clubs Chairmen and General Managers on the technical bench during matches.
Additionally, the NPFL expressed concern over the disruptive behavior of Ball Boys, citing actions such as withholding balls or delaying their return to the field as unacceptable. Such actions were deemed contrary to the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship and constituted a breach of league rules.
“Such actions, including withholding balls, delayed return of balls to the field and other related disruptions are completely unacceptable.
“We must emphasise that these actions not only go against the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship, but also constitute a clear breach of Rules 1.1 of the Frameworks and Rules”.
Clubs were reminded that in accordance with the rules, a fine of N1 million would be imposed on any erring clubs.
