Okocha advocates for more focus on grassroots development

Date:

Former national team player, Emmanuel Okocha wants the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to invest in grassroots schemes.

Emmanuel Okocha, the elder brother of Super Eagles legend Austin “Jay Jay” Okocha, is calling on the NFF to pump money in improving local football programmes and facilities.
“The NFF must work on improving training facilities for the teams. It helps in player development,” he told Footballlive.ng”
“Nigeria has developed in a lot of areas in football. But in infrastructure and training facilities there are problems.
“I usually feel bad when talented players are not properly harnessed to help them discover their talents. We need more Okochas in this country. They are spread in the streets. What they need is a goal driven program.”
“A good reference is my nephew Alex Iwobi, who started his football at a very early stage. This has helped him so far and he is performing well for both Arsenal and the Super Eagles.”
