The Nigerian Amputee team have now secured top spot in group A after a massive win against newcomers Burundi. Nigeria recorded a historic 11-0 win over the east africans.
Captain Sarafa Olalekan expressed his gratitude to God for the strength and ability to execute such a game. He mentioned that the team were undeterred despite Egypt winning 10-2 against the same opposition, and that meant that they had to outscore the host nation to top the group.
“We want to appreciate God for giving us the strength, ability and all the focus to go out there and get this historic victory. Because it was a challenge between Nigeria and Egypt to see who would get to the first of the table, you have to score more goals. Our first match against them was draw, so they went all out and scored as many as they could. And we went out today and proved ourselves and also make sure that we score as many goals as we could so that we can top the table also proceed to the next round. So it’s a great one for us”.
Olalekan also appreciated his teammates and the technical crew for their respective roles in the feat.
“And also, I want to appreciate my co-players because we put all our energy together to make sure that we play through the instruction of the technical crew, which is led by Coach Victor Nwenwe and Coach Gbenga Dosunmu and also the president”.
The team will now face Liberia, who finished second place in group B, following a 5-0 loss against group winners, Morocco.
