The Super Eagles have been assured of total backing and unflinching support at the World Cup by soccer fans at their base camp in Essentuki, Russia.
This much was revealed by Eagles’ media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, who said residents and officials in Essentuki have assured that the Nigerian team will not lack support during their stay in the community, from where they will travel for all their matches in Group D.
Ibitoye said they received the assurance after the Eagles arrived in Essentuki on Monday night to a warm welcome at the airport by the locals, before heading to their abode at Sanatorium Istochnik Hotel.
On Tuesday evening, the team had their first training session in front of a sizable crowd, which Ibitoye said was further assurance that the Eagles will be at home all through their stay.
Ibitoye said: “It’s amazing; we are still trying to take in the beauty of this place. I’m sure as we get by, because we are going to be here for quite a while, I’m sure we will appreciate this place a lot more as the days go by.
“The team has had a walk around and we love the facilities. I’m sure it’s going to be a good place for us. I’m sure at the end of our stay here, the people would enjoy it.
“They received us well when we came in and they told us they appreciate the fact that we chose this place as our base camp and that they would support us all the way but unless we are playing against Russia and thankfully that would take a while.
“So, we are enjoying the place and I’m sure it will get better and better. First day so good and everything is well and smooth so far.”
