“The coach reads the games very well,” Boniface says on Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga Triumph”

Date:

Victor Boniface has shed light on the factors behind Bayer Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga title victory, attributing their success to manager Xabi Alonso and the depth of their squad.

Die Werkself clinched their first-ever Bundesliga title with a resounding 5-0 win over Werder Bremen, ending Bayern Munich’s 11-year reign in the German top-flight.

Boniface highlighted Alonso’s tactical acumen and ability to read games as pivotal to Leverkusen’s triumph. “The coach reads the games very well,” explained Boniface. “Xabi Alonso knows what the team needs during the match to perform well.”

The striker also emphasized the importance of squad depth, noting how players who came off the bench made significant contributions, such as in the recent UEFA Europa League quarter-final first leg against West Ham.

“Just look at the match against West Ham: both scorers are players who came on,” Boniface pointed out. “We have a group of 20-25 players, not 11, and everyone gives 100% whenever they get their chance.”

Despite facing a three-month injury layoff due to an adductor injury, Boniface remains Leverkusen’s top scorer, having notched 18 goals and provided 10 assists in 27 appearances across all competitions.

His contributions, alongside the collective effort of the squad under Alonso’s guidance, have propelled Leverkusen to Bundesliga glory and an unbeaten run across all competitions this season.
