Rohr Refuses To Fault Iwobi’s Performance

Date:

Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has refused to slam Arsenal attacker, Alex Iwobi for a poor outing against Croatia on Saturday.

Rather than scold Iwobi in the wake of a rather shoddy outing in Nigeria’s 2-0 loss, Rohr said The Gunners’ star gave a good account of himself in the opening minutes of their World Cup opener.

Though Rohr stopped short of scolding Iwobi, he hinted that Ahmed Musa has a chance of starting in attack in the make-or-mar clash with Iceland on Friday after showing flashes of his qualities against the Balkans.

”Alex Iwobi did well in the beginning and later Ahmed Musa came, bringing his speed to the match, he has his chances, perhaps, to start the next game, we will see.

”I think the organization was okay, it was the first time we played like that in the midfield, with Ndidi who is coming back now after an injury, with Etebo and Obi Mikel, so when they play together for the first time, there’s a bit of complicity.

”I think these young players need time to learn, sometimes a little bit naive on the set-pieces but we will work on it.

”Of course, you are not satisfied when you don’t score, it is the attack, we were satisfied about the organization of the team defensively but we didn’t have so many opportunities to score,” Rohr stated post-match.

  1. Nigeria team did very well, but my blame go to the coach for placing some players in wrong position which brings out their poor performance on the pitch. Where Nwobi was placed is very wrong, he surpose to play as hitman not where he was placed. Please we Nugerians need good selection against our next match and good outcome, we are not at the texting period now Mr Coach.
