A total of nine foreign-based players have been earmarked to support the home-based squad in the May 22 international friendly against Atletico Madrid at Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.
Though the initial idea had been to line out an entirely domestic laced side for the high-profile game in the Akwa Ibom State capital, officials says some less glamorous players plying their trade overseas will added to the squad.
NPFL leading scorer Junior Lokosa is widely expected to lead the home-based stars, who are likely to be the core of the team to the last CHAN in Morocco.
The bulk of the 25-man squad will be drawn from Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), but officials says it would also be a chance to try out some previously untested players based abroad.
“Some overseas-based pros are to be included on the squad for the match against Atletico Madrid,” an official disclosed.
