Modric, who was making his first Real Madrid appearance since winning the ‘Men’s UEFA Player of the Year’ award, starred in midfield before being substituted on the hour mark to a standing ovation.
Supporters inside the Santiago Bernabeu raised to their feet and chanted “Lukita, Ballon d’Or”.
Not to mention singing the chant leading up to kick-off as well as during the game.
The notion of Modric winning the prestigious Ballon d’Or is endorsed by his teammates including Ramos, who posted a touching message on social media.
He uploaded a picture of himself kissing Modric accompanied with the words: “Now, for the Ballon d’Or”.
Modric and Ronaldo are among the favourites to win the 2018 Ballon d’Or following their heroics this year.
