Omeruo Targets La Liga Action Against Villarreal

Date:

Leganes of Spain defender, Kenneth Omeruo is targeting a starting role with his club in this weekend’s La Liga fixture against Villarreal, hence his decision to pull off the Super Eagles’ match against Liberia.

Rather than join the Eagles on the flight to Monrovia, to battle President George Weah in the ex-soccer star’s his testimonial on Tuesday, Omeruo returned to his base in Spain to quickly start preparations for the clash with Villarreal.

Subsequently, the 24-year-old lad on loan from Chelsea of England was back in training with his teammates on Tuesday morning with a bid to earning his debut for Leganes this weekend against Villarreal.

Omeruo was on the bench for the first time in Leganes’ 4-1 loss to Real Madrid for the past fixture, but hopes his early return from international duty will convince Mauricio Pellegrino to hand him his Liga debut on Sunday.

He will also seek to add some impetus into Leganes, who are currently 19th on the 20 team log, with a single point from their opening three games of the new Liga season.
