England have moved fast in their bid to hook another Nigerian-born player for a future role in their senior team, as Leyton Orient defender, Marvin Ekpiteta has been invited to the under-23 squad.
Ekpiteta has hit some top marks so far this season with Orient in the lower division, such that footballlive.ng learnt that his call up is understandable by England’s under-23 team coach, Paul Fairclough.
With two goals in 11 appearances in the English National League, Ekpiteta was named The O’s Player of the Month for August and has rave reviews for his performances this season.
Born in Enfield, the central defender, who started his career at Oxford City, before also lining out for Chelmsford City, Concord Rangers and East Thurrok United, now stands a chance of playing himself into reckoning for a full England senior team cap in future.
Ekpiteta is poised to make his international debut at under-23 level, though, after he was called-up by Fairclough for the team’s friendly with Estonia U23 next month.
The 23-year-old Marvin’s twin brother, Marvel Ekpiteta, was invited to the Flying Eagles squad ahead of the 2013 African U20 Cup of Nations in Algeria.
