Anthony Ujah came of the bench on the hour mark, but without the Midas touch and his side; Mainz 05 were stopped in their tracks by Schalke 04 on Saturday.
Ujah started from the bench for the fourth time this season and though he would have hoped to add to his tally, the Nigerian couldn’t deliver.
The Nigerian has scored twice in the League this season already, and both have helped Mainz to wins – their only League wins this season.
Mainz thus lost back to back Bundesliga games and their fifth successive to Schalke 04 in the league.
An early goal through Alessandro Schopf in the 11th minute was the difference at the Arena AufSchalke.
