Super Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye has raised the ante for victory in Tuesday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers reverse fixture against Libya, as he says the Nigerian team have stopped celebrating their 4-0 win in the first leg.
Ibitoye disclosed as much Monday morning on a radio sports programme monitored by footballlive.ng, during which he said the Eagles’ have put their champagne of celebration on ice for now.
The erudite sports broadcaster admitted Saturday’s 4-0 win is worth cherishing, but said the players and coaches have resolved not to celebrate until they beat Libya again on Tuesday.
The Eagles’ spokesman acknowledged that the team believe that victory again in Sfax, Tunisia would take them closer to AFCON 2019, hence their joint-resolve to stay focused on the task at hand and avoid any form of distractions.
He admitted that the second leg would be tougher than the first, as The Mediterranean Knights will want to redeem their image, after the battering they received at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Saturday, but Ibitoye said the day will end with Nigeria victorious.
Ibitoye said: “We are determined, we are focused, we are committed, we want to concentrate fully on the task of winning the reverse fixture in Sfax, Tunisia.
“That’s why we have put our champagne on ice, because we don’t want the celebrations of Saturday’s victory to distract us.
“The players are ready to give their best, the coach is already making plans for winning tactics, and I am sure we are on course to win again.
“All we can now ask for us more prayers and support from Nigeria. Without the fans, we will not be able to achieve anything.
“They should continue praying for us and I believe, by God’s grace, we shall win.”
