Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has once again spoken out in support of Elche of Spain goalkeeper, Francis Odinaka Uzoho, as the Franco-German tactician says the youngster needs time to gain more experience as Nigeria’s number one shot-stopper, footballlive.ng reports.
In the wake of renewed critical comments trailing Uzoho’s performances against Libya in recent qualifiers for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations, Rohr pointed out that the keeper is still just 19-years-old, then sued for longer period of patience from fans and pundits.
Rohr argued further that Uzoho should be allowed time to recover from any error he makes during matches and wants the lad to be granted lots of support in correcting any mistakes he might have been culpable of.
In the wake of Nigeria’s 3-2 win over Libya, Uzoho was roundly criticised for shaky ball handling and poor judgment of crosses during the game, with many observes also recalling that his ill timed and weak punch fell for a Libyan player to level the scores from 2-0 to 2-2 at a point.
However, Rohr insists that Uzoho, who is on a season long loan deal to Elche from fellow-Spanish second division side, Deportivo La Coruna, needs more time to fully assert himself in the Eagles.
Rohr also hinted that the defence line should share part of the blame and not just the goalkeeper, but admitted Uzoho was nervous after Libya’s fight back from two goals down, before Nigeria eventually won 3-2.
Rohr stressed: “Uzoho is young only 19 and sometimes your have to forgive him for some mistakes.
