‘Obagol’ Relishes Return To Inter Milan

Date:

Former Super Eagles striker, Obafemi Akinwunmi Martins (Obagol) has expressed delight with his return to his former club, Inter Milan of Italy, and is happy the night ended on a high for him.

Footballlive.ng reports that ‘Obagol’ returned to the team that shot him to international limelight on Tuesday, as he turned up to watch them take on Barcelona of Spain in the UFA Champions League.

‘Oba’ started from the youth ranks on joining The Nerazzurri in 2001 but was quickly catapulted to their main squad, for which he scored 49 goals in 134 appearances.

During his stint in Italy, the 34-year-old Martins won a Serie A title and two Coppa Italia honours before joining English Premier League club, Newcastle United.

Martins, who later played for Birmingham City, Rubin Kaxzan, WfL Wolfsburg, Seattle Sounders and Levante, is still recuperating from a hamstring injury he suffered in AFC Champions League action for his Chinese club in April.

He, however, put aside his fitness woes to turn up at San Siro Stadium to see Inter’s match against Barcelona on Tuesday night.

He was in the company of former teammates Julio Cesar and Luis Figo, as well as Inter’s current vice-president, Javier Zanetti.

They all watched from stands as Mario Icardi’s 87th-minute leveler canceled out Malcom’s opener to earn a point for the hosts, and the former Super Eagles striker said he was happy his sie did not lose.
