Ahmed Musa’s goal inspires CSKA Moscow win

Ahmed Musa ended his five-game goal drought with a clincher against Olympique Lyonnais on Thursday in the Europa League as CSKA Moscow booked their quarter-final spot in the competition.

Musa, 25, joined the Russian club on loan from Leicester City and finding himself in familiar territory settled right in with his old teammates.

Although he started off firing for CSKA in the mid season friendlies, the forward struggled to replicate that form in competitive games.

Until Thursday night, the Nigeria international had endured a difficult run, firing blank in three Europa league and two premier league games.

Musa was a hero of some sort on the day as his goal inspired CSKA Moscow to, who had lost the first leg 1-0 and were tied 1-1 on 59 minutes.

With elimination staring them in the face, on 60 minutes, Musa delivered what was a death blow; restoring hope.

A third goal followed courtesy Pontus Wernbloom and Lyon’s comeback attempt in the 71st minute fell short.

CSKA Moscow will find out their last eight opponent on Friday during the draw.
