Stanley Eguma Reflects on Rivers United’s CAF Confederation Cup Exit

Date:

Rivers United’s technical adviser, Stanley Eguma, has pinpointed the inability of his team to capitalize on scoring opportunities in the first leg as the primary reason for their elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup.

Despite securing a 1-0 victory against USMA of Algeria in the return leg on home soil, the Pride of Rivers couldn’t overturn the deficit from the first leg, ultimately bowing out of the competition with a 3-1 aggregate scoreline.

Speaking after the match, Eguma lamented his team’s profligacy in front of goal during the initial encounter in Nigeria. “We lost the game in Nigeria, where we created a lot of chances and converted only one,” he remarked.

Eguma acknowledged that his side had their fair share of opportunities to score in both legs of the tie but rued their failure to make the most of them. “Anyone who watched the game even here will know that we had our fair chances but we failed to convert,” he added.

The technical adviser emphasized the fine margins in football, suggesting that converting even one or two of those missed chances could have significantly altered the outcome of the tie.
