“I’m the one that chose Finidi George….” Pinnick Denies Role in Choosing Finidi

Date:

Ex-president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick has lamented that he didn’t pick Finidi George as the Super Eagles coach. Even though he mentioned he liked Finidi for the role, Pinnick explained he didn’t force his choice on the NFF.

Pinnick, now a FIFA council member, clarified that he and the current NFF president, Ibrahim Gusau, have a good relationship. He said Gusau is capable and works hard.

During a recent interview, Pinnick addressed rumors about his influence. He stressed that Gusau played a key role in past administrations and now leads the NFF.

Pinnick praised Gusau’s understanding of Nigerian football and his careful handling of finances. He urged people not to assume he had a big say in choosing Finidi George.

Pinnick said, “The president is very capable, always working round the clock. What I observed is that Nigerians don’t like to see peace in Nigerian football, they don’t like synergy. If I have a good synergy with my successor, I don’t think there’s any reason to say that I’m the one that chose Finidi George.”

He added, “Why should I be? Gusau was a key member in (Aminu) Maigari’s regime. Then in my own regime, he was very cardinal. He understands the dynamics, the theatrics, the politics, the game. And he’s an accountant, very prudent, so people should not just say things.”
