Nasarawa United has been charged to secure promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The directive came from state deputy governor, Emmanuel Akabe, during his visit to the team’s training on Wednesday.
Akabe emphasized the significance of a successful tournament for the players. Nasarawa United is set to compete in the Nigeria National League Super Eight playoff in Enugu, scheduled to run from June 7-13, 2024.
“I am here to visit you because I wanted to meet you before you leave for Enugu and wish you well ahead of the Super Eight Play-offs,” Akabe said during his visit.
“You are going as ambassadors of Nasarawa State, carrying the hopes of millions of sports enthusiasts, admirers, and followers, not only in the state but globally. Everyone is looking to you to succeed, and I believe you are up to the task.”
Akabe also reassured the team of the state’s support: “Our prayers are with you as you journey to Enugu. We wish you victory in all your matches and hope you return home with the coveted trophy.”
He concluded by reaffirming the team’s place in the NPFL: “Nasarawa United belongs in the Premier League. We might have made some mistakes in the past, but we have learned our lessons and will climb back to where we were before. Once we are there, we will remain there.”
