Agali Advices ‘Senegal’ Approach

Date:

Former Nigerian international, Victor Agali has suggested a directive to the advancement of Nigerian football. The former international was discussing on the context of Sone Aluko’s appointment as the first team coach for Ipswich Town, where he said coaches should not always have to get jobs outside Nigeria first.

The 45-year-old said that the people abroad would always prefer their own nationals before choosing amongst foreigners.

“If coaches are expected to get a job outside first, it’ll be difficult. Because they’ll prefer their own above our people. Amuneke is there, he’s not perfect but he’s trying for himself”, he said.

Agali then mentioned that Nigeria should take the Senegal approach, and trust one of it’s own people. He added that the person should be backed, and supported with the right resources including sponsoring the person to further better himself while on the job.

“The best we can do is act like Senegal, and take one of our own. Give him a chance, add some courses alongside him and we should be good. The money we’re using to pay foreign coaches, send two or three local coaches abroad and get them educated. But is the NFF ready to do that?”, added the former international.
