Ndidi Faces Decisive Moment With England Friendly

Date:

Saturday’s international friendly between England and Nigeria might be the decisive moment for Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi to prove himself fit enough for the World Cup, as has been put in line to feature in the game at Wembley.

Though Ndidi entered the Super Eagles’ camp with a hamstring injury picked up from action with his club, then had to undergo personal drills in both Uyo and Port Harcourt, the former Racing Genk of Belgium star is set to be tested against The Three Lions.

This much was disclosed by Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, who hinted that there is a need for him to know if Ndidi would be able to play at the World Cup before he rolls out his final list of 23 players for the global soccer showpiece.

With Rohr set to name his World Cup squad on Monday, the Franco-German gaffer is apparently getting cautious over his handling of Ndidi’s matter, such that the coach is now apprehensive of seeing the issue blow up in his face.

Rather than take a risk on Ndidi and place the lad in the squad to Russia, on account of his heroics with Leicester in the past season, Rohr now appears set to give the former central defender a practical test on Saturday.

Rohr declared: “Ndidi has been following a special programme for his club and for us. I think he can return to the team training and I hope to have him for the game against England.”
