Mason Greenwood have finalized his permanent move to Marseille from Manchester United.
The French Ligue 1 club reportedly secured the 22-year-old forward for a fee of £26.7 million ($35 million), which includes add-ons and an undisclosed sell-on clause.
Greenwood has not played for Manchester United following his suspension by the club since January 2022 over allegations of rape and assault, which were later dropped due to the withdrawal of key witnesses and new evidence.
The forward spent the previous season on loan at Getafe in LaLiga, where he managed to score eight goals and contribute six assists.
Marseille’s head coach Roberto De Zerbi maintains a neutral stance on Greenwood’s past, focusing instead on his potential contributions to the team.
“Mason is a world-class player,” De Zerbi said. “If he comes here, you have to know that I treat all my players like my sons and support them both professionally and personally. I can tell them off in private, but I would never attack them in public.”
Mason Greenwood is expected to join Marseille’s squad as they prepare for the 2024-25 Ligue 1 season, starting with their opening match against Brest in mid-August.
